This painting is of Thomas Dampier, a prominent glover whom lived from 1801 to 1876, in addition to being a glover by trade he married Elizabeth Bide, the daughter of another very prominent glover, bringing together two important Yeovil families During his lifetime Dampier and Bides had factories at Reckleford, Yeovil which were a huge employer to Yeovil's 19
The painting itself is well executed and is believed to have been made in the 1840's, quite probably 1845; however the exact artist remains an unknown. It is simply known to us as having been painted in the style of the British School.
